Every year the holiday season brings out some of our favorite traditions in song and story, and this one is no different. This year however the Burien Actors Theatre’s, The Christmas Carol Rag (written by Norman Allen and musical arrangements by Howard Breitbart), presents a show that is as familiar as tradition, but with a slightly different spin on the Charles Dickens classic.

Hi-Liners present a preview of their September production of 42nd Street for the Highline Historical Society on August 19th, 2014.

The Hi-Liner's production of Seussical opens this Friday, January 4th, and runs through the 13th. The musical amalgamation of Dr. Seuss stories and characters was created by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, and premiered on Broadway in 2000. The play has since been performed to appreciative audiences all over the country. Books that contributed characters or ideas to the work:

There are several more opportunities to see Santa's First Magical Ride," a novel take on the traditional Santa story. Showing at Youngstown Cultural Art Center in West Seattle through December 23rd. Tickets are available through Brown Paper Tickets.

The Hi-Liners' latest DownStage Center production "Into the Woods, Jr." opens this Friday, the 13th and runs through the 15th. DownStage Center productions are family-friendly, and feature performers ages seven through fifteen.

Friday evening, KidSounds, YouthSounds, and TeenSounds present "Bring on Broadway!" the spring concert for the combined young people choruses of Northwest Associated Arts. The salute to Boardway musicals takes place at the Highline Performing Arts Center, and starts at 7:00pm.

Tomorrow is opening night of Burien Little Theatre's production of "The Who's Tommy," the musical work written by Pete Townsend which first appeared as a Who album in 1969 and was expanded, seven years later, into a film by Ken Russell. "Tommy" was first in the lineage of "rock operas," and like Pink Floyd's "The Wall," it also addresses themes of British post-war disillusionment, staged in a hallucinatory fearful post-war Britain where young boys are not safe from abuse from authority figures.
